Helping You Stay Informed...

Links to the Information You Need

Everyone wants to know what will happen next in the real estate market.

In addition to tracking the market trends and neighborhood sales, which you can do using the resources on other pages of my website, it’s necessary to keep track of what’s happening with our national economy.

Real estate pricing is a localized function, but the monetary policies of the Federal Reserve Board, employment statistics, the perception of how the economy is responding, interest rates, and government sponsored programs will all have influence on Southern California real estate.

The goal of this page is to give you a few resources to help you get a sense of where our economy is headed, and how that might influence future real estate prices.

How to Use the Information You Find

Once you have a few more sources of information and start getting a different perspective on the economy, government policies, and the financial markets, what I hope you’ll discover is that there are always “experts” on both sides of an argument. One expert says “up” and the other says “down,” and they both have valid and convincing arguments that support their position.

I recommend that you use the data, including their rationales, as a basis to form your own opinion and keep an open mind. Don’t fall in love with any one particular analyst’s opinion. They don't KNOW what will happen next any more than you do. And from a statistical point of view, after more than a couple correct predictions, it becomes more likely that the next one will be wrong.

Also, be aware that it's easy to bias what you read or hear in favor of YOUR opinion.  You may be selective about the sources you utilize in order to confirm that you are right, or gain support for your view.  That's a dangerous approach.
